RIO cars arrive in Hartford - 1965
It's summer in Connecticut and the Rio open trolleys have arrived by flatcar in the Windsor Street yard of the New Haven RR.
Interested in more about these Brazilian cars?
We have an extensive collection of their photos and history from the time that they serviced Rio de Janeiro streets until they became an active component of the CTM. Thanks to the contributions of many viewers, the provenance is very broad and thorough. If you haven’t viewed the two page history yet …check it out here.

35 Ton Engine #1386 (Black Mariah) - PONEMAH MILLS - As she appeared in 1980 on the CTM Campus
Built in 1884 by GE, she hustled freight to and from the Ponemah Mills of Norwich CT. (and some smaller factories along the private line) from mainline Norwich & Worcester RR. The Ponemah Mills today are being restored as condos and artist lofts.
[The Ponemah (textile) Mill is actually located in Taftville, CT - the Native Americam name means; "our future hope"]

Would you like to share some of your early Connecticut Trolley Museum photographs with us and our viewers? Dig into your albums and shoeboxes and see what you can come up with. We are looking for photos at least 10 years old and, of course, the older the better. It'll be fun to look back and it might be a pleasant surprise for family or friends to see themselves as they looked visiting the Museum all those many years ago. Where has the time gone... Email whatever you find to: editor@ct-trolley.org
