SEPTEMBER 17TH

The CTM hosted the September meeting of the Engineering Society of Western Mass.

Prior to their dinner and presentations - and after - they enjoyed a leisurely trolley ride.

These folks also made a very generous donation to the museum - we surmise that it is due to the superb interlocutor skills of Sheila and Xian (seen in the background :-)

Thank you all very much and we hope that you thoroughly enjoyed yourselves and will be back to see us again... "We get just a might prettier for the Holidays!!"

HALLMARK CARDS EMPLOYEES TO THE RESCUE

These folks have been so-o-o great that we thought that they should have their own

page - please click here or on the photo below to share more of their photographs!

That's a rainy-day-ditty folks & you are on candid camera...

We have to admit that visiting the Trolley Museum so far this year has been

like being in Florida at four in the afternoon. The rain - and I mean RAIN

- but with the added feature of thunder and lightening (and hail as big as nickels) - has been a serious detriment. Good for the gardens - except for the hail - but

bad news for trolley running. New Yorker Al Gruhler took these shots just

before the bottom dropped out Thursday!

Come on down and try your luck - it may change ours...

SEPTEMBER 1955 - SPRINGFIELD TERMINAL

An interesting bit of nostalgia as we see Car 16 with her boarded-up windows,

sporting the aluminum paint decor of her final years on the Springfield Terminal

Railway. The following year she was purchased for the Trolley Museum and in

2007 again burst on the CTM scene, in her second full restoration after

considerable down time...see following photo.

July 19th on campus was hazy, hot and humid but it didn't stop fire engine

aficionados from coming out to view and explore the displays. Many towns

joined in and sent equipment for a great added effect...

OK Kathy - we have to tell you that your husband sent these in after the first group of photos. Seems that he has a special interest in this vehicle and, of course, you happen to have a few good shots of her... on your son's camera...

We really should try to have you guys come back again soon and give us a hand

with some restoration work on 451. A little painting perhaps? Got an extra week...? ;-)

NOPS 836 is outbound...

We don't know if 836 is coming or going but this is the gentle scenario

replayed throughout the season at "Trolley Central".

Come on down and be a part of this relaxing trip into yesteryear...

"You go first - no you go - no you go"! Well - that isn't quite how it works folks.

The controling signals (to the right in this photo) and the dispatcher in the

North Road Station, determine the right of way at all times.

Lots of strange controls here in the Motorman's compartment. Want to

learn how to pilot one of these massive machines? We have a fun

"Guest Operator Program" available to put you in that command position...

Staying close to home this summer? It's just a short trip to our

campus where you can spend the whole day or just a few hours.

The sky threatened all day and the storm broke suddenly with these folks

somewhere down the line. A little wet? To say the least but this great group

laughed it off and chalked it up to a "life experience". Proud of ya - Dudes...

CAR 36 - 1895 BRILL BUILT

Upon learning that Car 36 was to be restored by the CTM Crew,  Mr. Frank Pfuhler sent along these photographs of various later stages in her career

1942

August 1943

September 1944

At Wildwood New Jersey

October 1945

On the CTM Campus- August 16, 1952

Car 36 was built in1895 by Brill for the Lynchburg Traction & Light Company

located in Lynchburg, Virginia. It was subsequently sold to the Five Mile Beach Electric Railway in Wildwood, N.J. where it operated until 1952. After the closing

of service in Wildwood that year, the car came to the CT Trolley Museum in 1952. She is one of only a very small handful of this type of car left in the world.

More photos are available on the "Restoration Shop" page as she begins

her long journey back from impending oblivion. The restoration crews will be busy this year and we invite you to follow the refurbishment of this car and many other

irreplaceable traction vehcles as they begin to shine like new pennies.
